Frequently Asked Questions
Two devices can't see each other. What should I do?
AirTok discovers devices over the local network. Please verify:
- Both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network (not just the same provider)
- The router does not have AP isolation / client isolation enabled (common on hotel / corporate Wi-Fi; blocks device-to-device visibility)
- On iOS, you allowed the "Local Network" permission prompt at first launch β iOS silently drops discovery packets otherwise
- Your firewall is not blocking ports 53317 (TCP) and 53318 (UDP)
If nothing works, use the QR-code connect option to pair manually.
iOS can't see Mac / Windows devices?
Since iOS 14, multicast access requires a special Apple-granted entitlement. AirTok's multicast entitlement request is pending review. In the meantime:
- Grant the "Local Network" permission on first launch
- Your Mac / Windows can still see the iOS device (one-way visibility)
- Start the transfer from Mac / Windows; iOS will receive a prompt
- Or use QR code pairing
A large transfer was interrupted. Will I lose the file?
No. AirTok supports resumable transfers:
- Partially received files are saved with a
.part suffix
- Retrying the same file resumes from where it stopped
- Unfinished tasks appear in the "Unfinished" section on the Devices page; tap "Continue" to retry
Does cross-platform Live Photo transfer preserve the motion?
Yes. AirTok is one of very few tools that preserves Apple Live Photos and Android Motion Photos (Huawei, Samsung, Google, Xiaomi, etc.) across platforms:
- iOS β Android: auto-converts to the target phone's native motion-photo format
- Android β iOS: reconstructs a proper Apple Live Photo pair
- Playable motion after saving to the camera roll
Are transfers encrypted? Is it safe?
Yes. AirTok uses multiple layers of security:
- All transfers use TLS 1.3 end-to-end encryption
- Devices validate each other's certificate fingerprint
- First connection uses Trust-On-First-Use; subsequent fingerprint mismatches trigger a warning
- Optional SHA-256 file integrity verification (in Settings)
- Optional "confirm before receive" to block pushes from unknown devices
Do transfers pass through a server?
No. AirTok is a pure peer-to-peer LAN transfer β files go directly from sender to receiver, never through any cloud or relay server. It works fully offline as long as both devices are on the same local network. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I forget a trusted device?
Go to Settings β Trusted Devices. Tap any entry to remove it. Next time that device sends a file, you'll be asked to re-confirm.
How do I uninstall AirTok on Mac?
- Drag AirTok.app from the Applications folder to the Trash
- Application data lives at
~/Library/Application Support/AirTok/ and is left behind by default (so reinstalling keeps your trusted-device list). Delete it manually if you want a clean slate.
- Received files are in your Downloads folder and are not removed by uninstalling
Do Windows / Linux builds need extra dependencies?
No. AirTok bundles everything it needs:
- Windows: unzip and run, or install via the .exe
- Linux: .deb or AppImage, ready out of the box; needs GTK 3 (shipped with most distros)
